Sun Shines On Classic Cars

Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante

Classicmobilia E’News Issue 184 May 2026

Dear Classic Car Enthusiasts, Collectors and Followers,

It looks like summer is well on its way, with events galore - from minor local gatherings to the glamorous Villa d’Este and Villa Erba Concours on Lake Como, which has truly become an eye-watering, major event on the classic car high-roller calendar.

The cars on display this year did not disappoint and fitted perfectly with the local surroundings—an excellent event.

How refreshing it was to witness previously unseen cars, not flaunted or widely exhibited, each with incredible history! Just when you think you’ve seen everything, another one emerges from the woodwork; a remarkable feat even for seasoned eyes.

The above was supported by a two-day auction, with some incredible cars on offer and, once again, Ferraris ‘doing the business’, albeit with mixed results.

It’s unclear why British classics are suffering across the network, with values stabilising but showing no real signs of picking up just yet.

In speaking with the dealer network, it seems the market is a little quiet for mediocre cars; the focus remains firmly on quality vehicles with documented history, as always.

It’s evident that cars with the right numbers and full documentation are the ones ringing the bells and actually selling.

Many cars are being sold under the radar and not publicly advertised, yet commanding top-dollar figures. These transactions, which would substantially change averaging values, are not being picked up by the media, with some very interesting cars quietly changing hands.

There also seems to be an increasing number of armchair expert brokers looking for special cars, trying to earn from a quick turnaround. The market cannot sustain too many of these, and they are pushing prices up unnecessarily, so do be careful.

As we prepare for “The Most Beautiful Race,” the 2026 Mille Miglia, we are already being asked to source cars for the 2027 event, its centenary year. This will be something truly special and one to aim for. Entry will not be easy, so make sure you have the right car for this landmark 100-year celebration.

Over the next two months, we will be on the road most of the time, covering events, shows, and auctions. We look forward to catching up with old friends, clients, and followers, and sharing the latest news, so watch this space.

If you are looking to sell your classic, buy something special, source the right car for the 2027 Mille Miglia, or are considering a restoration project, we are here to assist: just get in touch.

Drive safely, and happy motoring.

Keith
