Dear Classic Car Enthusiasts, Collectors and Followers,
We wish you a very Happy New Year.
As always, the beginning of a new year seems to bring a touch of the unexpected and some surprises. Neither are strangers to the perpetual movements in the classic car market.
There were extraordinary scenes in Mecum’s giant auditorium in Florida last Saturday evening.
Exceptional examples of the 288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo and LaFerrari sold for
extraordinary figures at Mecum’s Kissimmee auction.
Those results make us wonder whether we may now see another big auction house taking the lead with top end European collections.
The coming Parisian week, THE glamours classic car event on the European calendar, will really show if the market is on the up or whether we are seeing just a minor blip. This is the time of the year when the ‘big boys’ go head-to-head over four days, with interesting results for all to see.
The European show scene kicked off at Maastricht… and what a way to start the year, with a great selection of cars on display and being sold over the weekend.
The other front-page topic is the matter of high-end performance and classic car
dealers disappearing… and owners' cars missing. As always, minor incidents could escalate in an industry as tightly-knit as ours and end up giving the classic car market and the dealers a bad name.
Tarnishing the classic car trade is never a good idea, but it is also the result of mounting speculations.
Please do be careful as there are a lot of new-comers starting up and
becoming experts overnight; not all classic car traders are bad, though. Good names can be built over decades and then destroyed in a few days.
If you are looking to sell your classic or looking to purchase something special, please do let us know; we are also at hand if you are looking at a restoration project.
Happy motoring
Safe and happy motoring
