Classic Car Market Surprising Results

Classicmobilia E’News Issue 174 July 2025

Dear Classic Car Enthusiasts, Collectors and Followers,

The world today is a crazy place, and not just in automotive terms. Looking back to the classic car boom years, when everything was uncomplicated and straightforward, it makes you wonder where it will all end.

There is a sense of despondency, pessimism, even general gloom around the classic car market from people doing the same old thing; but times have changed, and we all must move on.

Classic Car Auctions are having a significant impact on the classic car market in several keyways—both positive and negative.

We all have heard that the flavour of the month is the Ford Escort Mk2 RS1800 with the astounding result achieved on the day. As it is often the case, will the success at the top of the range (most expensive second generation Escort ever sold) trickle down to lowlier Ford Escorts? Or was it down to its exceptional original condition as well as rarity? We shall see.

With Jaguars E-Types and XKs not selling at auctions, the armchair experts jump on the bandwagon letting the world know that apparently the bottom has fallen out of the Jaguar market! Whatever....

It is astounding how, only one month ago, the well-talked-about Aston Martin DB6 market seemed to have been seriously affected by the influx of cars from the sand gang and now, surprisingly, it seems to be finding its feet again.

High auction prices can lead to short-term overvaluation and speculative buying; we all have witnessed this in the past. You know our thoughts on current auctions, where they are going, and what effect they have on the classic car market.

It is so pleasing to see a lot of more well-attended and organised classic car events spring up: just what we need to clear our heads and enjoy the classic car world again.

It is also pleasing to see good, rare car collections being promoted in the right way and with the right message, this is how it should be done! It just shows that if you do your homework and research, the car will tell the whole story for you.

This works across the whole spectrum of cars, from RS Escorts to F1 McLarens: it really puts the car on the map and tells its whole story.

If you are thinking of buying a ‘future dream’ or selling your pride and joy, please do let us know, as we are here to help with good friendly advice.

Thinking of a restoration project and a little lost in the process? We are here to assist.

Safe and happy motoring
