Dear Classic Car Enthusiasts, Collectors and Followers,
Decades of experience and a thorough knowledge of the classic car market tell us that we may be living through a period of price correction after the post-Covid boom, with overall values dropping, but a healthy level of demand remains.
While we see mixed results as far as high-value cars are concerned, there is still a strong interest in ‘modern classics’ from the 1980s, 1990s, and even the 2000s, particularly those with unique history or pop culture relevance. This trend has now been pulling the market for the last five years at least, if not longer.
Older, more traditional classics have seen significant drops in value, but opportunities for attractive "bargains" are emerging as the market returns to more sustainable levels.
What is the future holding in store? We predict a more stable but slower growth, with the market not expected to experience the dramatic crash of the late 1980s. There is, by and large, a more positive ‘sentiment’ to it, despite economic uncertainties, and collectors remain optimistic.
With prices now largely aligned with the reality of offer and demand, the market is considered generally healthy, with strong interest in restorations and ongoing interest in ownership.
The auction world is always a surprising cauldron of changes, not just in terms of results but also with key individuals moving around in a game of musical chairs, undoubtably affecting, to a certain extent, the bigger players’ performance.
The last few months of this year will be pivotal for the auction world as we only have so many cars to offer and a finite number of buyers; hopefully this delicate balance will not drive the market further down, but – as always - time will tell.
Goodwood had yet another good year, with its traditional British weather making the event feel homely and wet without dampening the passion for the classis car and racing world.
Drivers and their machines never fail to provide the right kind of entertainment, come rain or shine (literally).
The restoration world is still quite strong, despite these highly-skilled and knowledgeable people reporting a lack of good-quality parts, trained manpower and raising costs. Surely this wonderful wealth of experience and passion can never disappear overnight.
If you need help with buying, selling, or a restoration project, we are here to assist.
Just be careful.
Safe and happy motoring
Keith
