Classicmobilia E'News Issue 167 December 2024

Dear Classic Car Enthusiasts, Collectors and Followers

As 2024 draws to an end and we look back on one of the most surprising years in the classic car world, it's challenging re-living all the highlights, as there is so much to remember the year by.

Firstly, we would like to extend our heart-felt gratitude and thank all our clients, friends, partners and followers through an exciting (if quirky) year, as you all embarked on the journey with us, not knowing what was around the corner.

It has been refreshing to finish the year on a high, with so much to look forward to in 2025. We feel we ought to start January as we finished December, hitting the ground running.

In the closing months we have seen some interesting cars being sold, with some off the market’s public view, but the whispers were so loud that their availability became common knowledge.

Within a large number of unique cars (some of which we had not seen for many years) what seems to have raised the most interest is the collection everyone is talking about: the Ecclestone F1 cars. What a range of fabulous pieces of history, not only in great condition, but including some of the most relevant cars in Formula One over the years.

We are very pleased they will not be going to auction.

Talking about the auction scene and what is happening there, if we see one more on-line outfit appear out of nowhere, it will be back-to-back non-stop digital auctions. We are yet to see the same car in two separate auctions simultaneously, but at this rate, it surely will happen soon.

It was interesting to witness the last 2024 London auction, which took place this month. It was more like a dealer Christmas party, and one feels for the bidders in the room, but a lot of demand was internet-driven, which says a lot about trends.

It was so good to meet up with old friends and raise a glass to the departing 2024. We wish all our colleagues a great, successful New Year.

Such wishes are, of course, extended to everyone in the classic car world, owners, sellers and restorers. Let's look forward to driving our cars and attending some great events.

If you are looking to buy, sell or restore your classic car, always remember we are here to assist.

Happy motoring

Keith
