At the 1959 London Motor Show, Rolls-Royce and Bentley introduced their first all-alloy V8 . It was housed in the Bentley S2 and its cousin, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II. This new powerplant offered about 200 bhp and due to its lightweight construction, offered tremendous performance in comparison to the 4.8-liter six-cylinder engine it replaced. Other new mechanical features included the Hydramatic transmission, enginepowersteering, and upgraded power assisted brakes. Inside, the S2 was given an updated dashboard which included improved gauges.
The S2 was available in 'Continental' form, the highest specification of the line-up. It had upgraded brakes and a higher rear axle ratio to cope with high speed cruising on the modern motorways. The Continentals were more comfortable, quieter, and faster than the standard production cars, making them more desirable and sought after.
With only 125 S2 Continental Park Ward drophead Coupes produced with 89 in right hand drive.
Alloy Coachwork by Park Ward, this Bentley Continental S2 Drop Head Coupe is one of the 1960's stunning looking motor cars with that touch of elegance and grace. This car was first registered in the Channel Islands in 1962 and then purchased by the current owner in November 1971 where it resided in London, only taken out for weekends away. Originally supplied to Mr J.O.E Hood in Jersey and finished in Shell Grey with Blue trim and Blue Everflex hood covering. The car was re-painted in the 1970’s to the current Blue exterior.
This two owner motor car with only 47,500 miles taxed and MOTed, is in original all round condition and is worthy candidate and must have future classic.
